Different types of bets explained by Daily Betting Tips
Here at Daily Betting Tips, we’ve had a look at the most popular types of bets offered by our recommended betting sites, and have listed them below to help you better understand the odds and possibilities on offer:
Win-Draw-Win – The most common and straightforward bet available on football, of course, involves betting on the winning team or on a draw. Normally, this is the first option you’ll find when you search for football odds at an online sportsbook.
Total Goals – Another very popular option is to bet on the number of goals scored during a match. This is also referred to as an over/under bet. For example, bettors will have the option to choose Under 2.5 goals (which would include 0 goals, 1 or 2 goals), or Over 2.5 goals (in which case the bet will be won if they score more than 3 goals).
Double Chance bet – A double chance bet gives you the possibility of covering two outcomes in football. You may bet on team A winning or for a draw, or on either team A or team B winning. By placing a double chance bet, you’ll have increased chances of winning, but of you'll get lower odds.
Total goals - 1st half – As the name suggests, this refers to a bet on the total number of goals during the first half, and will consist of an over/under bet.
Half time score – Another popular bet on football, this involves betting on who will have the highest score until the halftime.
Asian handicap – In this case, the outcome of a draw is removed from the bet, so if the match ends with a draw, your stake is refunded. Given the difference in ability between the two teams, the favourite (i.e. the team which statistically performs better), is given a goal handicap, and will for example start the game with -1 goals, whereas the underdog will be given a +1 goal. You then back one of the teams, with the result that if the team still loses you may still win the bet due to the handicap. In this example, if the favourite scores one goal and the underdog doesn’t, the end result for the purposes of the Asian handicap bet will be 0-1, a win for the underdog! This market tends to be of better value and gives you a better chance of securing a profit over time.
Outright bets – For particular leagues and championships such as the World Cup, bettors of have the option of making outright bets on the end result of the tournament. For example, you may bet on the winner of the World Cup final, or on the top Goalscorer overall!
